The barn at piney ridge farm

Adelaide Hills Private Retreat-style Accommodation

Built in 2020 and a Finalist in the 2021 Australian Timber Design Awards, the Barn is quite simply an extremely unique and stunning space which lends itself perfectly as a private retreat space.

It was designed and built to resemble a classic Australian Shearing Shed on the outside, and an old English Barn on the inside – two styles of architecture that we love. The Barn fits so well into the landscape of our working sheep farm. It sits immediately adjacent to our sheep yards and hay shed and offers commanding views from Mount Lofty, across the Onkaparinga Valley and through to Lake Alexandrina.

Australian Shearing Shed meets Old English Barn

Built by former English Barn Builder, Ralph Coupland, a specialist in working with reclaimed hardwoods, the materials used in the building and the history of where they were sourced tell a fascinating story. You can read about it here. The craftsmanship used in the build is extraordinary, and uses techniques not often used in Australia. We feel extremely fortunate to be its owners.
