We invite you to an Introduction to Bargello in our Craft Class – Bargello Embroidery here in The Studio at Piney Ridge Farm.

Bargello is a type of embroidery that dates back to the 17th Century. It was practised by Hungarian noblewomen, including a Hungarian princess who married into the de Medici family, and another who married into the Jagiello dynasty of Poland.

Traditionally, Bargello was stitched in wool on canvas because it made it very durable and suitable for use on upholstery, cushions, or even carpets.

Modern Bargello however, sees it making  a statement in more contemporary pieces, such as this clutch purse, sunglasses case, tissue box cover or even these Christmas decorations, all stitched by Roz to give you an idea of the project possibilities using Bargello.

Bargello is generally worked in a series of straight (or long) stitches in a mathematical pattern to create motifs that are often repeated within the design, and worked in complimentary colours to give a striking result.

In our Bargello Craft Class, Roz will show you the basics of Bargello Embroidery, and provide you with a stitching chart and all materials you will need to make a set of 4 Bargello Coasters.

You are welcome to try four different designs if you wish, or make them all identical – the choice is yours, limited only by your time.

Roz will have a variety of  wool colours available for you to choose from, but if you have a particular colour palette in mind that you would like to use, you may wish to bring 2-4 balls of 8 ply wool in your preferred colour scheme.

If no Class has been scheduled or if the time does not suit you, you are welcome to Contact Me with a minimum of 2 interested participants, and we can book a date that suits you.

No previous experience is necessary, although you will be able to work at a faster pace if you already have a basic knowledge of how to work with a needle and thread.

Needle threaders are available for you to use, if finding the eye of that needle is a challenge for you! 🙂
