Rest and Play

There’s no doubt about it – life is busy, and complicated.

Which makes it enormously important for us all emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically, to carve out time for ourselves to unwind, re-focus and be refreshed. Spending time in nature and removing some of life’s distractions are a great way to do that.

“It takes courage to say yes to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol.”

Brenē Brown

Rest is Crucial to our Wellbeing

It frees us to express ourselves and explore outlets to be creative.

Every one of us has a creative side. Even those that think they don’t. We just need to find our own individual way of expressing it.

There is something within us all that is only truly satisfied when we give our time and energy to creating.

There are so many benefits to being creative. It reduces stress and anxiety, gives a sense of pride and accomplishment, lets you express yourself your own way, provides a sense of purpose, involves problem solving, promotes concentration and improves brain function and mental health.

About the Owners

Ros

Ros has been a passionate creator all her life, having been heavily influenced by her mother’s busy creative hands from a very young age.

“Mum was such a clever lady. Her way of relaxing was to make something – whether in oil painting, card making, sewing, cake decorating, water-colour painting or cross-stitching, she found joy in learning and mastering a new skill or technique. It has certainly rubbed off.”

Over the past 45 years or so, Ros has learnt a wide range of creative skills: scrapbooking, paper crafts and paper making, modern macrame, chunky and fine crochet, knitting, dressmaking and sewing, cake decorating, candle, soap and chocolate making, floristry, embroidery, decoupage, paper-tole, music and singing, catering, event management and hostessing, and creating a range of natural skin care products – just to name some of them.

She is passionate about passing on these skills to whomever would like to learn them.

In her professional career Ros has worked as a Registered Property Conveyancer for over 25 years. With extensive experience in the Business and Finance Management, and IT fields for more than 36 years, she manages all the administration, accounting, social media, IT needs and Website management for her and Shane’s businesses – Piney Ridge Farm, Hinton Jewellers, Initially and Intertwined Macrame.

Shane

Shane has been a Manufacturing Jeweller for over 40 years and is the 4th generation of Jewellers from the Hinton Family who have been part of Adelaide’s jewellery scene since 1864.

He operates as Hinton Jewellers and is one of only a handful of hand chisel engravers in Australia. Using this technique has created The Initially Collection of Jewellery. He is a strong proponent of the superiority of handmade jewellery, and custom makes all of his commissioned pieces by hand. His emphasis is on unique durable pieces that will stand the test of time and be treasured as heirlooms to be passed down through generations.

Even though the career Shane has chosen is incredibly creative, Shane also has a long history of personal creative pursuits. He has project-managed numerous building projects, designed and personally built 3 fully landscaped large gardens, personally completed a ground-up restoration of a 1955 split-window VW Kombi to Concourse standard, which won best of Show in Melbourne. His latest achievements are building a wood-fired pizza oven and project-managing the building of The Barn and Creative Studio here on Piney Ridge Farm.

Shane & Ros have four adult children who are also very creative in their own rights. Their son, Drew, now also works as a Manufacturing Jeweller, adding a 5th generation of jewellers to the Hinton/Goldsmith name.
