Stay in an Award-Finalist Barn in the Adelaide Hills

🏆 Finalist – 2021 Australian Timber Design Awards

A private country escape for two, handcrafted from reclaimed Australian hardwoods.

Why Guests Love Staying at The Barn

  • Award-finalist timber barn handcrafted from reclaimed Australian hardwoods
  • Complete privacy for two adults
  • Peaceful 60-acre working farm with panoramic Adelaide Hills views.
  • Spectacular rural views from every window
  • Luxury country comfort with thoughtful handcrafted details

Designed and built in 2020 by former English barn builder Ralph Coupland, The Barn was recognised as a finalist in the 2021 Australian Timber Design Awards. Built using reclaimed Australian hardwoods and traditional English barn-building techniques, it is one of the most distinctive accommodation experiences in the Adelaide Hills..You can read about it here. The craftsmanship used in the build is extraordinary, and uses techniques not often used in Australia.

We designed it to resemble a classic Australian Shearing Shed on the outside, and an old English Barn on the inside. The Barn fits so well into the landscape of our working sheep farm. It sits immediately adjacent to our sheep yards and hay shed and offers commanding and private views, overlooking our 100+ year-old gum trees and blue-ribbon natural grazing land from Mount Lofty, across the Onkaparinga Valley and through to Lake Alexandrina.

Being fully self-contained and open plan in its layout, the Barn includes a fully-equipped handmade timber kitchen with all European appliances, unique rustic bathroom and a large elevated deck.

The Barn – an award-finalist timber retreat overlooking 60 peaceful acres in the Adelaide Hills.
